Compilation of Books Empty Compilation of Books

Post by Admin Wed Dec 21, 2016 4:33 pm

Hi, Jim here.

What are some books you guys have read that have been good?

Please list them down, so we can make a compilation of quality books.

This would also help with the book exchange idea, as we are able to know who has read what book and who is interested in reading that book.

Thanks!

A Song for Nagasaki Paul Glynn [1988] 4.5/5
Keywords: Nagasaki A-bomb survivor, Japanese Christianity (Catholicism), Convert, Scientist-doctor.

"On August 9, 1945, an American B-29 dropped an atomic bomb on Nagasaki, Japan, killing tens of thousands of people in the blink of an eye, while fatally injuring and poisoning thousands more. Among the survivors was Takashi Nagai, a pioneer in radiology research and a convert to the Catholic Faith. Living in the rubble of the ruined city and suffering from leukemia caused by over-exposure to radiation, Nagai lived out the remainder of his remarkable life by bringing physical and spiritual healing to his war-weary people."

Goodreads
No found online version.
Libraries: USyd (?), Notre Dame
I think Mel & Max have this book.

Thanks Jimmy! Would it also be possible for you to give your own personal review on why you think this book was good/how it helped you? I am very interested.

Another book worth mentioning:

Shadows of the Workhouse by Jennifer Worth. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3925836-shadows-of-the-workhouse

"In this follow up to CALL THE MIDWIFE, Jennifer Worth, a midwife working in the docklands area of East London in the 1950s tells more stories about the people she encountered...These stories give a fascinating insight into the resilience and spirit that enabled ordinary people to overcome their difficulties."

Personally I found this book to be very insightful in terms of showing me the harsh reality of the workhouses. Definitely changed my perception on my own living standards.
